Camping and barbecue season is upon us! If you are a true Winnipegger, you’ve consumed your fair share of kielbasa (garlic sausage, if you will) at social gatherings, not least the infamous Manitoba social. Out shopping for a bonfire recently, I spotted a wondrous creation: Kooby Dogs!

Made by Country Meat and Sausages in Bluemenort, MB, Kooby Dogs are hot dogs made from the well-loved kielbasa meat. They were well-received by Colleen, particularly wrapped in bannock infused with bacon drippings!

Try them out!

Review: Smoke’n Bob’s

Canwest Global Plaza (north side of Portage Avenue, close to Main Street)

Supper club took a walk on the wild side and met for lunch on a beautiful, warm spring day at Canwest Global Plaza. We weren’t the only ones with this bright idea and the plaza was full of business types, construction workers, and passers-by having a seat on the planters and grass.

Smoke’n Bob’s is Colleen’s favourite hot dog stand. We arrived just before noon and beat the huge line-up that formed within minutes. The vendors are very efficient, taking your order and money several people before the cart. Then, the best part, you arrive at the condiments. The huge variety includes corn relish, an assortment of mustards, and bruschetta! The bruschetta is what won Colleen over!

Colleen favours the bison smokie, I had an Italian, and Kerri tried out the veggie dog (her only option, being a pesci-ovo-lacto-vegeterian (remember that because I’m not explaining again). The smokies were tasty, sliced and grilled, and the veggie dog was pretty ordinary. The sun and spring air made the day!
