Mini-Review: The Ground Floor Urban Diner @ Place Louis Riel
190 Smith Street
(204) 947-6961
A steal of a deal, $50 for $25 on the Winnipeg Sun’s Windfall Wednesdays, I couldn’t pass it up and snatched up a gift card. I visited for drinks and some fries with a friend and gave away the card after that. I’m not usually one to just dismiss a restaurant, but it’s saying something to produce inedible sweet potato fries - the darlings of new comfort food. The fries came out underdone, and when sent back to be cooked completely, they came back overdone. The dip wasn’t very appetizing either. The house iced tea was overly sweet and came from a mix.
Word on the street is that The Ground Floor aims to be fresh, modern, and urban but falls far short. Unfortunately, having glanced at the prices on the menu while there, I’m not willing to shell out the bucks to try again. Let me know if I’m off track.
