Anonymous asked: Hi! We are a group of ladies, in our 30's, from North Dakota and we are heading your way for a weekend at the spa. What are some food places and late nite hangouts we just can't miss? I would say our tastes are more Italian, Mediterranean and Contemporary and in the downtown area preferably. Thanks!
That’s great!
My favourite restaurant is Segovia, which is a Spanish-inspired tapas restaurant with both classic and modern tapas dishes. They’re located in Osborne, which is about a 30 minute walk from downtown or a short car ride or bus ride. They don’t take reservations, so I like to go early and have a leisurely supper.
I would also recommend Beaujena’s, which is a prix fixe surprise meal. Beaujena’s is in St. Boniface, which is not downtown but just over the river.
Aside from my top two recommendations, I would also add Amici or Bombolini (Italian on Broadway) and Cafe Dario (prix fixe neuvo latino in the West End). I’ve also been meaning to try the brunch at Prairie Ink.
If you are coming to Winnipeg this weekend, what a fantastic time! Culture Days is on and there are great late night events at several places around the city.
Otherwise, the King’s Head Pub in the Exchange District is great. If you like dancing, there are a few clubs downtown, but I’m afraid I’m not the person to ask about that!
Aqua Books is one of my favourite venues with a diverse events calendar, and I’d also note The Cyrk (sporadic calendar), Park Theatre, the West End Cultural Centre, and the Manitoba Theatre Centre and Warehouse Theatre.
Have fun!
